What is neurodermitis? Neurodermitis (also known as atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema) is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease that occurs in episodes. It manifests itself in the form of dry, scaly skin that is red and itchy. Particularly frequently affected areas include the crook of the arm, the back of the knee, and the neck, face and scalp.
Skin care for neurodermitis Neurodermitis sufferers have particularly sensitive skin. The skin's protective barrier is disturbed, making the skin more vulnerable. Since neurodermitis occurs in episodes, you can do your skin some good during the symptom-free period with special care for very dry skin that supports the skin barrier. The DOCTOR BABOR NEURO SENSITIVE CELLULAR series was specially developed for extremely dry and very sensitive facial skin.
Gentle cleansing for extremely dry, sensitive skin Facial cleansing for neurodermitis When cleansing the face, particularly mild products should be used that are gentle on the skin and do not cause additional irritation. What is the cause of neurodermitis? The causes of neurodermitis are not yet fully understood. A combination of various factors is suspected, including genetic and environmental factors. Neurodermitis occurs in phases, this is also referred to as a neurodermitis episode. There are phases in which the skin is severely affected and the itching is unbearable, as well as phases in which the skin is free of the typical symptoms. What triggers a relapse in those affected varies greatly from person to person. Thus, one factor can lead to neurodermitis in one person, but not in another.
These external factors can trigger a neurodermitis flare-up:
  • Psychological strains such as stress
  • Hormone fluctuations
  • Textiles such as virgin wool
  • Climatic conditions such as dry heating air, cold or heat that triggers perspiration
  • Allergy triggers such as certain food ingredients, animal dander, pollen, cigarette smoke.
